HHS Production of The Tempest blows audiences away!

Ariel's Bondage

Just before Thanksgiving, Hillsboro High students put on a marvelous production of Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest. Led by head of department Brad Brown and teacher/director Kristin Moon, students recreated this tale of betrayal, forgiveness and love. From set and costume design, to running tech and taking center stage, there was room in the show for students with talents of many kinds. IB music students even wrote an original score for the HHS production, based on The Tempest’s characters!

According to Moon, the story was true to tradition, with a few modifications that reduced time and added flare to pivotal moments.  She praised her students, saying, “It has been both a pleasure and an honor to work with them. Their level of talent and professionalism exceeds the normal high school theatre student,” a sentiment proved by their dedication in rehearsing after school four days a week for two months.

The students and teachers weren’t the only ones who made it happen. The local community was invited to attend performances, and also pitched in with support–including a generous Sherwin Williams’ discount on paint, and local businesses who showcased event posters. Parent volunteer and professional costume designer Jennifer Kleine has contributed to school productions for the past few years, and enjoys getting to know the students on her design team.

“The arts are an important part of high school, and I want to help the teachers and students have a fun, successful experience with every production,” said Kleine It seems that she, the teachers, and the students of all ages and academies who combined their creativity and hard work would agree: this production was fun experience, and a huge success.
